Today we had a meeting with Fabien Pinckaers (CEO of OpenERP) where he shared with all the partners news about changes in OpenERP.
First of all congratulations to the team as they were able to raise 10$ million of investments! They were closing that round for a long time already and succeeded. I’ll try to cover major changes interesting for OpenERP end-users.
New OpenERP brand
The major announcement changes is that OpenERP brand will be discarded. It is okay to say “former OpenERP” for next 3 months but going forward we need to use new name – “Odoo”.
Here is a note from OpenERP about meaning of the new name:
Important is that Odoo will still remain OpenSource. BTW, we observed that new name was already mentioned back in 2009 in articles. OpenERP were referring to “Odoo” as
Investment into community
As an Open Source project Odoo is going to invest a lot in its community. The major investment will be in brand new community website with updated help documentation and help forum based on Q&A (similar to stackoverflow.com).
As everybody knows – it was a major request from all partners and customers. And that definitely shows that Odoo is going to become much bigger and mature.
New pricing model
The new Odoo pricing model will cover both SaaS solution and support contracts for on-site installations. The key notes are:
- New pricing model is applied from July 1st. All existing contracts will be the same till the renewal
- Odoo pricing will be based on quantity of users per app bundle. For SaaS first 2 users are free. Next users EUR 12 / USD 15 per user per month per app bundle. There are 4 major bundles: CRM, Accounting, Commerce, Project
- There will be possibility for customers to sign support contract directly with Odoo even when working with partners
